Meet
Mark Murrell

For Mark Murrell, Maine Lobster has always been about more than seafood. It’s about the people gathered around the table, the stories shared between bites and the memories that stay with someone long after the meal is over. As the founder and CEO of Get Maine Lobster, an online seafood company that ships Maine Lobster nationwide, Mark has built a career around helping people across the country experience the joy and connection that Maine Lobster brings.

“We get to be a part of people’s long-lasting memories,” said Mark. “Often, we are helping people celebrate major milestones in life with the people they care about most in the world.”

Based out of Union Wharf in Portland, Mark and his team are constantly finding new ways to make Maine Lobster accessible. From lobster roll kits and lobster mac and cheese to lobster boils in a bag and sous vide products, Get Maine Lobster creates curated at-home experiences designed to bring a taste of Maine directly to consumers’ homes.

“We are always looking to make lobster more approachable and fun,” said Mark. “With lobster, we want to be at the forefront.”

The company has partnered with brands like Momofuku and Tovala to create unique dining experiences centered around Maine Lobster, while Mark continues to find new ways to connect consumers with the people and traditions behind the industry.

“In truth, much of what I do is delivering the story of what we do and how we do it.”

While innovation plays a large role in his business, Mark remains deeply connected to the traditions and sustainability practices that define the Maine Lobster fishery. Over the years, he has spent time on the water with lobstermen along the coast and has developed a strong appreciation for the stewardship that exists within the industry.

“It is wild to me that the lobstermen and women built the core foundation of our sustainability laws because they wanted to preserve the industry for generations,” said Mark. “Every captain I’ve worked with takes pride in our approach to sustainability.”

That respect for the fishery is something Mark hopes customers feel when they open one of his company’s shipments at home. He sees Maine Lobster as a reflection of generations of hard work, heritage and community.

“When someone cracks a shell and the juice spurts onto their shirt and they start laughing, that’s part of the experience,” Mark explained. “It’s almost a rite of passage to get messy with lobster.”
