Maine Lobster places you have to try in Portland

Visiting Portland?  Welcome to one of the most premiere seafood capitals of the world. Portland is home to great beer, wonderful coastlines and the sweetest lobster on earth. If you’re in town for a weekend, make sure you try out some of our favorite restaurants that help support Maine’s lobstermen!

1. DiMillo’s on the Water

25 Long Wharf, Portland, ME – This iconic Portland restaurant is situated on a boat and is a Portland mainstay. They serve a wide array of dishes, including a number of classic Maine Lobster dishes. DiMillo’s has been family owned and operated since its inception in 1965.

2. Luke’s at Portland Pier

60 Portland Pier, Portland, ME – Luke’s offers takeout, delivery and full-service outdoor dining directly on Portland’s working waterfront. Situated right beside our lobster buying station, the restaurant features 360-degree views of Portland Harbor and serves up a number of tasty lobster dishes. You can enjoy your meal with craft cocktails, Maine beers and a variety of sustainably sourced seafood menu items as well.

3. The Lobster Shack at Two Lights

225 Two Lights Road, Cape Elizabeth, ME – This is one of Maine’s most iconic lobster shacks. While not technically in Portland, the Lobster Shack is well worth the drive, which will offer you a wonderful view of Cape Elizabeth and its surroundings. The menu is expansive and includes Maine Lobster, fried clams and other fare.

4. High Roller Lobster Co.

104 Exchange Street, Portland, ME – Originally a food truck, High Roller Lobster Co. transitioned to brick and mortar in 2018 and has never looked back. Serving up a wide array of lobster dishes as well as Maine beer, the menu is creative and fun (a “lobby pop”), but still offers the solid Maine Lobster classics as well.

5. Portland Lobster Company

180 Commercial Street, Portland, ME – This seasonal take-out lobster shack is well known for serving up Maine-style lobster fare in a traditional shack out setting. Located on the waterfront on Portland’s bustling Commercial Street, and typically offering live music, the Portland Lobster Co is well worth a visit.

6. J’s Oysters

5 Portland Pier, Portland, ME – A Portland classic offering up a wide variety of seafood (not just oysters). This Portland mainstay is well worth a visit for a good, reasonably priced meal in a fun atmosphere.

7. Becky’s Diner

390 Commercial Street, Portland, ME – More likely than not, you’ll sit down next to a fisherman at Becky’s, which is family owned and operated and serves up classic American fare, including several traditional lobster dishes. Becky’s opens at 4AM in line with fishermen’s hours and is busy all day.  A trip to Portland would not be complete without visiting Becky’s.

8. Scales

Maine Wharf 68 Commercial Street, Portland, ME – If you’re looking for seafood at its finest in a more “up-scale” environment, Scales is the spot. It’s located right on the wharf Scale sand  is part of a group of restaurants and bakeries including Fore Street, Street and Co. and Standard Baking. Menus change regularly to reflect seasonality and the chef’s creativity. 

9. Street & Co

33 Wharf Street, Portland, ME – Located in the heart of Portland’s Old Port, Street & Co. is one of Portland’s oldest restaurants dedicated to bringing incredible, sustainably sourced top-notch seafood dishes to Mainers and tourists alike.
